Who was Addie Aylestock ?
Addie Aylestock was the first ordained black woman minister in Canada. She served as Rev. Addie Aylestock with the British Methodist Episcopal churches for over twenty years. She was born in Glenallen, Ontario and ministered in Toronto, Halifax and Owen Sound.
Addie Aylestock attended the Medical Missionary College and the Toronto Bible College, while working in domestic service in Toronto. In 1951, Addie became the first ordained Black woman in Canada and served in several British Methodist Episcopal Churches until she passed away in 1998.
